Scope of Astm B423

This specification covers the characteristics of nickel-chrome-molybdenum-niobium alloys (to UNS N06625) and nickel-chrome-molybdenum-silicon alloys (to UNS N06219) which serve as raw materials for the production of rigid seamless tubes and pipes. The specification presents general requirements for coated tubes and pipes.

Annealing

The products are offered in two heat treatment classes:

Grade 1 (annealing) - treatment at temperatures as high as 1100°F (593°C).

Class 2 (liquid annealing) - temperatures above 1100°F (593°C) where high creep and fracture resistance are required.

Testing

Alloys shall be subjected to tests - chemical analysis, tensile tests, and hydrostatic or non-destructive electrical tests. Materials must meet the required mechanical properties - tensile strength, yield strength, and relative elongation.

Standardization

The values specified by Astm B444 in units of inch-pound shall be considered standard. Metric values, are mathematical conversions to SI units, which are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
