Machining of stainless steel by milling is carried out with rotating blades. The cutting tool moves in a constant radius, the feed is in a perpendicular direction from the plane in which the rotation occurs. Milling is a universal technical method that is suitable for working with both stainless steel products and workpieces made of other alloys. Machining with a milling cutter is highly productive. Grooves, grooves, planes, ledges on rectangular sections, ledges on profile sections, shaped reliefs of stainless steel products - this is by no means a complete list of what can be done by milling. Milling is used to cut bars, cut pipes, apply external or internal threads.

Types of milling cutters and types of machining

To process flat or shaped stainless steel products, a multi-tooth milling cutter can be used, each tooth of which is a separate cutter. Cylindrical milling cutters, either prefabricated or solid, can be used for machining various products on milling machines. The prefabricated cutter has inserted blades. Vertical milling machines and special-purpose milling machines are equipped with end milling heads with blades made of extremely hard alloys. End milling cutters, which may be solid or with inserted blades, are used for machining of complex constructions made of stainless steel, having surfaces conjugated at different levels, as well as machining of inclined or parallel surfaces - bevels and ledges on stainless hexahedrons or cubes.

For shoulder and groove milling, keyhole, disc and ring cutters are used. Ring cutters are used if grooves are required on products or if a half-open plane is to be machined. For quality machining of closed key grooves, the best way is to use a key cutter, and for straight or spiral grooves, such as grooves between the teeth of cutters, countersinks, reamers, etc., an angular cutter is used. If it is necessary to cut a slot or a narrow slot, a slotted cutter is used. Specialized shaper cutters are used for shaped products. During primary milling, the milling cutter feeds the workpiece toward the milling cutter. During final finishing, the product is guided "under the mill" to get a cleaner and smoother surface.
