Forward and reverse pressing

In the first case, the direction of the metal flow coincides with that of the deforming tool, in the second - opposite to it. The force of reverse pressing is higher than that of direct pressing (regardless of whether it is performed in the cold or hot state of the alloy), but the surface quality of the finished product is also higher. Therefore, for the production of aluminum bars of high and high precision, as well as rolled products of small lengths, reverse pressing is used, in other cases direct pressing is used. The stress-strain state of the metal during pressing is all-round irregular compression, in which aluminum has the highest plasticity. Therefore, this technology has practically no limitations on the limiting degrees of deformation.

Hot pressing

In hot forming, the billet is heated in special electric furnaces before it is deformed. The heating temperature depends on the aluminium alloy. All other process steps are identical to cold pressing.

Cold deformation

For highly ductile aluminium alloys (e.g. AD0 or A00), the rolling is carried out cold. Round or square aluminium rods are cleaned of impurities and oxide layers, oiled extensively and fed into a pressing tool. There it is picked up by the press-stamp, which pushes it first into the container, and then, with the increase of technological pressing force - into the matrix, the cross-section of which corresponds to the cross-section of the final rod. The direction of the flow, as stated earlier, is determined by the method of pressing. The production equipment used is a special horizontal type hydraulic rod-impregnating press.

Dressing

After the end of the pressing cycle the aluminium bar is fed to the press for straightening, where a defect such as the bending of the bar axis caused by residual stresses in the metal is corrected. After straightening is the cutting to size and the subsequent facing of the rod.
