Tungsten wire welding

Argon arc welding

Welding with preheating, accompanying and subsequent heating to 300-650 ° C and welding without hardening of parts is recommended. Vacuum annealing at t° 1800 °C for 1 hour increases the ductility of welded joints with a brittle transition temperature of 700 °C. A new tungsten powder GE-15 was developed that does not produce pores and cracks during arc welding.

Supply of argon

Welding was carried out with continuous supply of inert gas to the torch. Flow of inert gas cools the weld and harmful substances are removed from the welding area, which ensures clean welds with respect to impurities. When welding plates with thickness up to 1.5 mm a mixture of 50% Ag + 50% Na is fed to the torch, when welding material of bigger thickness, only helium is fed.

Strength

The strength of welded joints is slightly lower than the strength of the base metal to a temperature of 1650 °C. It is enough to heat the parts to be welded well, and cooling in a vacuum as if to create conditions for annealing after welding. Introduction of molybdenum additives and titanium and zirconium oxides into the molten metal contributed to grain refinement in the structure of welds. The method of joining thin tungsten sheets by brazing has been developed
