Grades of titanium

Titanium grade 1– is gray color metal, durable, light with good corrosion and chemical resistance.

Titanium grade 1 is resistant to most aggressive media, to changes in temperature, strong and light. Scientists call it “the metal of the Space Age.” It is indispensable in the construction of modern aircraft, helicopters and missiles. Titanium alloy uses in space vehicles and heavy-duty engine-powered submarines and high-speed vessels.

Titanium grade 1 has a significant electrical resistance which in combination with nonmagnetic makes it indispensable in electronics and electrical engineering.

Titanium alloys

Titanium alloys are most often alloyed with Al, Mo, Mn, Cr, Si, Sn, Zr, Fe. Titanium alloy VT5 contains 5% of aluminum and more durable compared to pure titanium, but less technologically. The alloy is forged, stamped, rolled and welded well. VT5 is used titanium wire, titanium rods (titanium disk), and titanium tubes. VT5 is for parts operating at t ° to 400 ° C.

Grade 6 titanium alloy is designed for products operating in the range from cryogenic temperatures up to +450 ° C. Contains 5% of aluminum and 2-3% of tin. Tin improves workability of the alloy. Grade 6 is used in such kinds of semi-finished products as titanium wire, titanium sheets, forging, stamping, profiles, titanium plates, titanium tubes.

Titanium alloys OT4 and OT4-1 contain aluminum and manganese. Characterized by high technological plasticity (both hot and cold) and welded all types of welding. OT4 and OT4-1 used for production of titanium sheets, titanium plates, strips and bars, as well as titanium rods (titanium circle), forging, titanium pipes and profiles. Also OT4 and OT4-1 are used for manufacturing (stamping, welding and bending) parts which operating at t ° to 350 ° C. OT 4 and OT4-1 have the disadvantages: 1) relatively low strength and heat resistance; 2) tendency to hydrogen embrittlement.

In the alloy PT3V Mn replaced by vanadium.

Titanium alloy VT20 - more rugged alloy than grade 6. Alloy VT20 alloyed with aluminum, zirconium, and molybdenum and vanadium additives and used for parts for a long time working at t ° to 500 ° C. Because of a significant percentage of aluminum the ductility of VT20 alloy is low. But VT20 is famous with high heat resistance. When welding, weld strength corresponds to the strength of base material.

Titanium alloy VT3-1 is the most assimilated among titanium and alloy, it contains Al - Mo - Cr - Fe - Si. VT3-1 is heat-resistant alloy reliably works at t ° 400 - 450 ° C. Isothermal annealing gives the VT3-1 high thermal stability and plasticity. It used for manufacturing titanium rods (titanium circles), profiles, titanium plates, forgings, stampings.
