Technical characteristics

Common for all grades of duralumin alloys is the obligatory presence of copper - its content varies between 3...6%. The second place in the list of alloying additives belongs to magnesium - it is up to 2% in duralumin. All alloys of the group under consideration are prone to dispersion hardening, which determines their high strength, as well as rather high fatigue strength characteristics. The most widespread duraluminous alloys are D1 and D16, which are produced in accordance with technical requirements of GOST 4734. Both alloys are actively hardened during their heat treatment - aging.

The importance of copper

At the same time, the presence of copper has a negative impact on the alloys' resistance to corrosive wear. Since during melting of duralumin copper concentrates mainly on the grain boundaries, such alloys are particularly susceptible to intergranular pitting corrosion, which intensifies if electrical stress is applied to the alloy. Copper also impairs the surface anodizing ability of duralumin. The amount of copper in alloys should not exceed 10...12%, otherwise they lose their plasticity and become excessively brittle.

Quenching

Technologically, in order to carry out heat treatment the alloys are first heated to temperatures of 490...5100 C, and then quenched in water. Then the billets are subjected to aging if necessary.
Duraly is used in the construction of public buildings, is actively used in aerospace engineering and other areas of economic activity. Supplier Evek GmbH offers to buy duralumin of domestic and foreign production at an affordable price in a wide range. We provide delivery of products to any point of the continent. The price is optimal.

Ageing

It can be natural and artificial. Usually duralumin after heat treatment is subjected to natural aging, because as a result the alloy acquires a higher resistance to corrosion. For natural aging, billets and semi-finished products are kept at room temperature for a few days, and aging is less intense as the temperature goes down. Artificial aging is used for heat treatment of alloys such as D16, for this preforms are heated in a furnace to a temperature of 185 ... 195 ° C.
