Alloying has a multidimensional effect on the qualities of titanium rolled products. Vanadium increases strength, impact and abrasion resistance. Aluminum increases processability and specific strength and tin increases impact toughness. The presence of oxygen in concentration of 0.1-0.5% has little effect on ductility, but already at 0.7% of oxygen titanium completely loses the ability of plastic deformation. Nitrogen increases strength limits and simultaneously reduces ductility.

Corrosion resistance

Fatigue tests in corrosive environments were conducted under wedge load (WOL), with through cracks and partially through cracks. Frequency interactions were studied, as well as the effect of the stress orientation ratio. The effect was to increase the fatigue crack growth rate with decreasing frequency. In saltwater, where at 0.1 Hz the crack growth rate increased to the highest level, well below the corrosion cracking threshold.
