Magnesium casting

Technical Characteristics

Among the foundry alloys the alloy of magnesium with aluminum (AL8) containing 9.5-11.5% Mg has the highest mechanical properties. After quenching its strength reaches 30 kgf/cm with elongation of 1 2%. However, this alloy has worse properties than other aluminum alloys. High casting properties have alloys which contain eutectics in their structure. Eutectics form in alloys in which the alloying element content is greater than the limit solubility. Therefore, the content of alloying elements in foundry alloys is higher than in deformable alloys.
