Tungsten applications

Technical Characteristics

By nature, pure tungsten is a malleable and flexible metal, but in the presence of minute impurities of carbon it becomes incredibly hard. Because of its chemical resistance, it does not react with nitric, hydrochloric, or any other mixture of acids. To make the metal react with acids, it must be heated, then tungsten dissolves with "aqua regia" and interacts with chlorine or sulfur.

Applications

Tungsten alloys are indifferent at high temperatures in a vacuum, so they are used in the targets of X-ray machines, in the manufacture of filaments in lamps, heating devices, electron beam tubes, as well as under load in special crucibles. It is impossible to do without tungsten in the manufacture of heat-resistant assemblies and parts that are operated in aggressive liquid and gas environments. The demand for tungsten tubes is steadily increasing in aerospace, nuclear power, machinery, electrical engineering, military-industrial complex, and medicine.
