Composition and properties

Stainless steel grade AISI 414 (1.4008) is a high-alloy iron-based alloy, characterized by high corrosion resistance, especially high-temperature. The chemical composition of the steel is as follows:

Chemical element Carbon Silicon Manganese Chrome Nickel Iron
Steel content, % Up to 0.15 Up to 1.0 Up to 1.0 12...13 1,8...1,9 The rest

The usual impurities formed in the process of melting steel are sulfur (up to 0.03%) and phosphorus (up to 0.04%).

The nearest domestic analogue of this material is considered to be stainless steel of 15X13H2 grade. It is produced in accordance with technical requirements of GOST 5632. Steel 15X13H2 has the following chemical composition:

Chemical element Carbon Silicon Manganese Chrome Nickel Iron
Steel content, % Up to 0.15 Up to 0.8 Up to 1.5 12...14 1,6...2,0 The rest

In Europe the steel with similar composition is not melted.

The crystalline structure of steel after quenching according to conventional regimes is characterized by the simultaneous presence of austenite, martensite and ferrite, and therefore the material can be attributed to dispersion-hardening steels. The physical and mechanical characteristics of the steel are within the following limits:

  • Tensile strength, MPa - 1795;
  • Ultimate ductility, MPa - 1013;
  • Modulus of ductility, GPa - 200;
  • Relative elongation (for samples up to 50 mm in diameter) - 15 %;
  • Impact toughness (after hardening and tempering), kJ/m3 - 70...80;
  • Brinell hardness - not more than 450...460 NV.

Application

Volumetric bar from corrosion-resistant stainless steel AISI 414 (1.4008) can be used for the production of blanks for the subsequent hot volume pressing of critical parts of turbines and other power installations, which operate at high pressures and sliding speeds. Resistance against corrosion-mechanical wear processes is maintained up to temperatures of 600...6500 C.

Due to the considerable initial hardness, direct plastic processing of sheet and volumetric rolled steel AISI 414 (1.4008) is not advisable. This material is limited in cold form by the separating operations of sheet stamping, so it can be used for making flat parts of measuring equipment, which operates in corrosive environments and at elevated temperatures. As a result of good thermal conductivity, parts made of this steel do not lose their size or shape when in use and are therefore used under high requirements to product accuracy.

Company Evek GmbH offers to buy stainless steel AISI 414 (1.4008) sheets and sections in a wide range, and at favorable prices from the manufacturer. Each batch is accompanied by a corresponding certificate of quality.
