Advantages of brass wire

Brass compared to copper is more durable. Additives of aluminum and zinc make it very resistant to the action of soil and atmospheric moisture, chlorinated and sea water, organic acids. Lead additives make it especially corrosion-resistant. Such wire has high ductility, wear resistance, has an aesthetic appearance, is reliable, durable, biologically harmless and meets the most stringent sanitary standards. It is very adaptable to pressure, easy to polish, bend, braze with hard and soft solders and can be used in various industries.

Disadvantages

Brass is not as hardy as other metals and in particular steel alloys.

Applications for

Such wire serves in the production of electrical equipment and decorative elements. It is used to make fine meshes, contact couples, filters for the oil refining and food industries. It is used for welding works as an additive; in electrical engineering - for the production of wires and cables, cores of electric motors, electromagnets and transformers. It is needed in light industry: textile and shoe industry, for example, for production, small copper nails and studs, fittings. Its high processability makes it relevant in a wide variety of industries.

GOST 1066 regulates production of brass wire, which contains copper from 59% (L59-1) to 80% (L80) - the percentage composition is normalized in GOST 15 527. GOST 19 703 regulates manufacture of lead brass wire LS 63-3. TU 184 590-106-053-98 and TU 48-0814-108-2000 regulate manufacture of brass wire of LS58-2 grade. General-purpose wire is produced according to GOST 1066-90 from brass of LS59-1 and LS63 grades with chemical composition according to GOST 15 527-2004. The control of chemical composition is regulated by GOST 24 231-80. Cold deformation is used in wire production. The wires have etched surface and sparse length.

Marking

Reflects the category of the alloy and the percentage of alloying elements. Production accuracy in terms of section or length may be high, elevated, normal. Special conditions: on the ovality of increased accuracy (PO); antimagnetic wire (AM); surface quality increased (PC); - plasticity increased (PL); strength increased (PP).
