Characteristics

Grade 02Х8Н22С6 refers to complex-alloyed austenitic steels. Production is normalized by such TU: 14-1-1024-81; 14-1-3164-81; 14-1-3233-81; 14-1-3660-83; 14-1-3812-84; 14-1-3801-85; 14-1-5076-91. It is melted using plasma-arc, vacuum-arc melting, EAF (electroslag remelting). It serves as a base for welded chemical reactors operating in contact with concentrated 85% nitric acid at t° up to 100°C.

Corrosion resistance

According to TU 14-1-3801-84 and TU 14-1-5076-91 steel 02Х8Н22С6 is resistant to intergranular corrosion after a 24-hour test in a boiling 72% nitric acid solution. Before the test, the steel is subjected to provoking heating to 600 °C for 20 minutes, followed by cooling in air.

Note: steel has increased resistance to corrosion cracking in 42% magnesium chloride solution.

Treatment

The temperature range of hot deformation is 1150-850°C. This steel is easily forged in both hot and cold condition. Hardening is done in water at 1050°C, with a heating time and holding time of 2 minutes per mm of thickness. The same treatment is used for deburring not only after hot plastic deformation, but also after cold deformation.

Welding

Welding is carried out by automatic or manual welding. For RTA use electrodes OZL-24 with 02X17H14C4 wire. For automatic arc or manual arc welding - recommend a wire brand 02X8H22C6. The corrosion rate of such welded joints in 98% HNO3 at 100 °C = 0.22 mm/year. To prevent intergranular corrosion parts after welding should be quenched in water at t ° 1050 °C.
