Composition and properties

The high carbon and manganese content spring steel 60 G is produced according to GOST 14959 specifications and has the following chemical composition:

Component in steel C Si Mn Ni Cr Cu Fe
Percentage content in steel Within 0.57...0.65 Within 0.17...0.37 Within 0.7...1.0 Maximum 0.25 Maximum 0.25 Not more than 0.20 Basis

There are sulfur and phosphorus (not more than 0.035%) as metallurgical impurities in the steel. The closest foreign analogues of 60G steel are steel 1060 in North America and steel C60e in Europe. There are a number of other analogues whose composition is characterized by the presence of the following elements:

Name С Si Si, Mn Ni Cr Mo Fe
Percentage content in steel Within 0.57...0.65 Not more than 0.40 Within 0.60...0.90 Not more than 0.40 Not more than 0.40 0.40 Not more than 0.10 Basis

The presence of sulfur and phosphorus in the percentage does not exceed 0,045% of the foreign analogues of 60 G steel.

During heat treatment, the austenitic transformation proceeds in the steels considered, the temperature range of which is in the range of 725 ... 7650 C. Steels are not notable sensitive to the formation of flocs during forging, but during tempering the rate of cooling should not be exceeded, otherwise the material acquires tempering brittleness.

The main physical and mechanical properties:

  • Tensile strength, MPa - 1180 (for samples in annealed state) and 680 ... 740 MPa - for annealed samples;
  • Ultimate ductility, MPa - 785;
  • Relative elongation, % - 12...15 (for annealed samples);
  • Brinell hardness, HB - 241...280.

Application

HRSG steel 60G, C60e and (1.1221) in the original assortment of sheet and strip are used in medium and general mechanical engineering in the manufacture of flat springs, spring washers brake tapes and similar products, from which require increased resistance to wear. Billets made of these grades of steel lend themselves well to hot forging, after which the products acquire a fine-grained structure and improve their strength properties. The final process steps are quenching or normalization.

It is economically feasible and profitable to purchase sheet metal rolled products made of the steels discussed above. All delivered products are subjected to strict technical quality control, and the product prices remain at the level of manufacturer's selling prices. Each batch is accompanied by a quality certificate.
