Composition and properties

Steel AISI 439 (1.4510) is a stainless low-carbon steel of ferrite class, additionally stabilized with titanium. The chemical composition of the steel meets the classification requirements of the UMS classification, and is represented by the following chemical elements:

Component Carbon-nitrogen Chromium Manganese Ti- tan Cream-nium Nickel Aluminum Iron-zot
Contents, % Up to 0,03 17...19 Up to 1.0 0,2...1,1 Up to 1.0 Up to 0.5 Up to 0.15 77,1...82,8

In addition, as unavoidable metallurgical impurities, the steel contains elements such as sulfur and nitrogen (up to 0.03%), as well as phosphorus (up to 0.040%).

Characteristics of steel corrosion resistance

Due to the considerable amount of chromium in its composition, AISI 439 (1.4510) steel actively resists pitting - a dangerous physical process in terms of durability, which is the gradual formation of micro-cavities and surface cracks. The presence of titanium blocks the mechanisms of intergranular corrosion, which is usually accompanied by the destruction of the surface layer. Resistance to oxidation is maintained at a high level up to temperatures of 900...9,500 С. In this case the steel is insensitive to the chemical composition of the environment (in particular to the presence of chlorides in the atmosphere, its pH, temperature variations, etc.).

Workability

AISI 439 (1.4510) can be cold forged under normal conditions. Sheets and strips of this steel exhibit the ability to be deep drawn. During heat treatment, the hardening associated with achieving an austenitic structure occurs more slowly than in other steels of a similar class. The steel is also easily workable on machine tools. The martensitic structure does not develop during welding due to the low nitride and carbide content, and the residual stresses are very low.

Applications

Cold-rolled sheets and strips in this steel grade are suitable for the manufacture of precision connectors and structural elements which are exposed to permanent aggressive components, including alkalis and acids. Ferritic structure is very homogeneous after making fixed joints, which eliminates the appearance of internal stress concentrators. Thus, flat parts made of AISI 439 (1.4510) steel show increased high-temperature durability.

The closest domestic analogue of this steel is stainless steel 08X13T, which, however, inferior AISI 439 (1.4510) on some performance indicators.

To buy sheet and strip steel AISI 439 (1.4510) from Evek GmbH company means to provide increased durability and corrosion resistance of all sheet parts, which are made of this material.
