Composition and properties
AISI 439 steel (1.4510) is a ferritic grade stainless steel, additionally stabilized with titanium. The chemical composition of steel meets the classification requirements of the UMS classification and is represented by the following chemical elements:

In addition, as the inevitable metallurgical impurities, in the steel there are elements such as sulfur and nitrogen (up to 0.03%), as well as phosphorus (up to 0.040%).
Characteristics of corrosion resistance of steel
Due to the significant amount of chromium in its composition, the steel AISI 439 (1.4510) actively resists pitting corrosion, which is dangerous from the point of view of the operational durability of the physical process, which consists in the gradual formation of micro-layers and surface cracks. The presence of titanium blocks the mechanisms of intergranular corrosion, which is usually accompanied by the destruction of the surface layer. The oxidation resistance remains at a high level up to temperatures of 900… 950 0 С. At the same time, steel is insensitive to the chemical composition of the environment (in particular, to the presence of chlorides in the atmosphere, its pH, temperature fluctuations, etc.).
Steel AISI 439 (1.4510) can be subjected to cold stamping in the usual modes. Sheet and tape from this steel show the ability to deep drawing. When heat treated, the hardening associated with obtaining an austenitic structure occurs more slowly than for other steels of this class. Steel is also easily machined on machine tools. During welding, due to the insignificant content of nitride- and carbide-forming elements, the martensitic structure does not form, and the level of residual stresses is very low.
Sheets and cold-rolled strip from the steel grade under consideration are suitable for the production of precise connecting and hull components of structures that operate under the constant influence of aggressive components, including alkali and acids. The ferritic structure after the performance of non-removable joints is very homogeneous, which excludes the appearance of internal stress concentrators. Thus, flat parts made of AISI 439 steel (1.4510) show increased high temperature durability.
The closest domestic analogue of this steel is stainless steel 08X13T, which however is inferior to AISI 439 (1.4510) for some performance indicators.
