Composition and properties
In accordance with the standard specification EN 10088−2: 2005 (European Union) and ASTM A 240−08 (USA), this steel includes:

In terms of its physical parameters, steel has a ferrite microstructure, and in the annealed state it exhibits weak ferromagnetic properties. At a density of 7.7 g / cm3, steel has an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion: in the temperature range 20… 100 0 С this parameter is only 10.4 x 10 -6 1 / K. The coefficient of thermal conductivity at room temperature is 23 W / mK, and Young’s modulus under the same conditions is 220 GPa.
Steel is distinguished by increased corrosion resistance with the simultaneous action of chlorine and sulfur vapors, approaching these parameters to acid-resistant austenitic steels such as AISI 316 (1.4404). With prolonged high-temperature action of corrosive media, focal manifestations of pitting corrosion are possible, which are expressed in individual surface cracks and recesses.
Sheet and tape from this steel are obtained by conventional cold rolling technologies. In comparison with the closest analogues, AISI 444 (1.4521) steel is less sensitive to the temperature and time parameters of heat treatment regimes, which consequently reduces the laboriousness of performing these operations.
Due to the two-component stabilization of the composition with titanium and niobium, the steel is easily subjected to various machining technologies, including hot and cold stamping with significant degrees of deformation. The steel is well welded, and requires considerable heating of the surface before bonding.
AISI 444 (1.4521) is used for the production of containers for hot liquid media (including corrosive ones): boilers, industrial heaters, and pressure vessels.
The closest domestic analogue of steel is the alloy 02X18M2BT, produced in accordance with GOST 5632. Unlike the brand in question, copper is present in its chemical composition instead of niobium.
