Alloys with specified elastic properties

General Characteristics

Precision (i.e. special) alloys with defined elastic properties are highly resistant to deformation. They have high strength and are resistant to corrosion. Some of them are magnetic. Some exhibit elinvar effect, i.e. a temperature-independent modulus of elasticity.

Classification

- Nickel alloys are dispersion-hardening and corrosion-resistant in a number of aggressive environments.

- Co-Cr-Ni-based alloys are deformation-hardening and corrosion-resistant, they have specified elasticity and hardness properties, have wear resistance and non-magnetic properties.

- Elinvar alloys based on Fe-Ni-Cr. These alloys are very ductile and easily workable by pressure.

Applications

Alloys of the first group are used for sensitive and resilient parts that work in an aggressive environment over a wide temperature range. Alloys of the second group are in demand for surgical instruments, winding springs and electrical measuring instruments. The third group of alloys is used the most extensively. Elinvars are needed in the production of sensitive elastic elements whose properties do not depend on the temperature: diaphragms, clock hairs, springs, resonators of electromechanical filters, ultrasonic delay lines.
