"If you look sharp and attentive, you can eventually see fortune; for it, though blind, is not invisible." Francis Bacon. paraphrasing the famous philosopher, one can say that if one tries hard enough, one can discern the minuscule thickness of titanium foil, which, though very thin, is not invisible.

General Characteristics

Titanium foil is one of the most popular types of titanium rolled products. It is superior to similar products made of other metals in its strength, lightness, and heat resistance. Interaction with atmospheric gases at high t° leads to the formation of a strong protective oxide-nitride film on its surface. This foil is biologically inert, which allows its use in medicine and food industry, it is easily stamped and rolled to the thinnest layer. It is remarkable for its exceptional strength, its ductility comparable to copper, and its low creep similar to stainless steel. It resists long-term exposure to moisture, alkalis and acids, has low thermal conductivity, is heat resistant and can be used in cryogenic cooling conditions. Its disadvantages are relatively high cost.

Production

Titanium titanium foil is a product of very thin rolling which is made of VT1-00 and VT1-0 grades. Titanium of these grades practically does not contain any impurities, that is why it is the most plastic. Production is regulated by OST 1 90 145-74. Chemical composition is normalized according to GOST 19 807-74. Preparation and sampling to determine the chemical composition is in accordance with GOST 24 231-80. Marking of the alloy reflects the name of the developer. In China, technical titanium and α-alloys are designated by "TA". In the USA, Ti α-alloys are marked with the letter A. The minimum thickness of the foil is up to 0.013 mm. It is produced by cold rolling with annealing in vacuum furnaces.

Usage

Modern electrical capacitors (both conventional and electrolytic) have an admixture of tantalum. This increases their capacitance and improves their quality. Since tantalum is an expensive element, titanium foil is an option. Kevlar has proven itself for the production of body armor. Titanium foil of several layers gives the same strength and at the same time is much lighter. Titanium foil as a biologically inert material is also successfully used in medicine, particularly in dentistry for dental prostheses. Resistance to corrosion, temperature fluctuations, lightness and durability, plasticity - make it a super-material of the XXI century.

Storage

Titanium foil is stored in covered modern warehouses that meet current standards, under specified temperature conditions, with adequate protection from mechanical and other types of damage.
