Relevance

Nickel is a strong and ductile metal which allows producing a great variety of goods. Alloy wire from NP-2 is used by the modern industry not less often than similar products of this brand - sheets, rods, bands, circles. It contains 99.5% of nickel with the rest consisting of silicon, magnesium, carbon, arsenic, phosphorus, tin and others.

History

Until the middle of the 18th century, nickel was unknown. When mining copper ore, Saxon miners often encountered a rock from which they could not smelt anything. The miners gave it the name Nick, a naughty dwarf. The metal was only isolated in 1751 by a young Swedish metallurgist, Axel Cronstedt, who suggested leaving a "folk" nickname for this semi-metal. At that time, semi-metals were substances that had transitional properties between metals and nonmetals. At first nickel attracted only jewelers, but it was impossible to use it in industry. The sulfur impurities made it brittle. But in the 20th century, with the invention of technology to remove sulphur on an industrial scale, the brilliance of nickel eclipsed that of gold and silver. It was a dream come true for metallurgists to produce many grades of stainless steel.

Marking

Depending on the amount of impurities, semi-finished nickel wire is given a numerical grade. NP-2 is the most common series. "N" in the name denotes the metal itself, and "P" indicates semi-finished products.

Advantages of NP-2

Pure nickel wire is very hard, ductile and malleable. It is well polished, it is not for nothing that jewelers were the first to appreciate its advantages. At normal temperature, nickel wire is covered by a protective oxide film in the air that protects the metal from corrosion. Nickel is included in a huge number of heat-resistant alloys that resist the effects of aggressive liquid and gaseous at t ° up to 850 ° C. Due to its plasticity, nickel is available in various types of processing: rolling, drawing, stamping, turning, welding, and the production of very thin nickel wire, nickel ribbon, nickel sheet , etc. The disadvantage of the alloy NP-2 is an admixture of sulfur that can form a sulfide film on the surface of the product and make the material brittle at high temperatures.

Production

Wire can be rolled from silicon nickel - used in electronics, and nickel-manganese wire - in mercury rectifiers, internal combustion engine candles. Nickel wire is produced in accordance with GOST 2179-75 of two types: soft wire (also called annealed) and hard -nagar wire, ie produced under cold pressure to increase the strength. Nickel wire should have a clean surface without defects or cracks, roughness or slight deviations from the declared diameter are allowed. Usually NP-2 wire is made to order, its diameter can be as small as a few microns, for the production of such a product thickness requires high-tech equipment. The quality of such nickel products is the highest. Customer requirements are taken into account to within a few microns,

Applications

Television and radio engineering cannot be imagined without nickel. NP-2 wire is used for production of cathodes and grids for radio tubes and microwave devices. NP-2 wire can be used as a high resistance nickel wire in the construction of thermocouples. Such wire is indispensable for manufacturing of electroplastic electrodes and is in demand in electroerosion machines where controlled decomposition of substances by electric current takes place. NP-2 wire is used for application of nickel anti-corrosion spraying. Here the wire serves as a starting material for thin nickel coatings applied to products under vacuum conditions. The wire is used in vacuum applications and is a regular customer of research institutes and laboratories. Industrial chemistry uses NP-2 wire for catalysis which is the most readily available source of pure nickel. Nickel wire is indispensable for the production of modern electrical equipment, this wire helps avoid galvanic pairing with similar parts. The wire NP-2 is not the only grade, also produced nickel wire of grades NP-3 and NP-4. Such wire has the most affordable prices today.
