Drilling of copper
The processes of obtaining blind or through holes on copper billets using metal cutting equipment are complex, because of the high ductility of the material, intermittent chips are formed. Before deep drilling (or for making holes with a diameter of less than 2 mm), the preforms are pre-hardened by mechanical means — surface cold forging. The surface of the metal becomes harder, and the chips are more free-flowing. The drilled copper is drilled at smaller, than usual, sizes of feeds, and sharply sharpened drills.
