Structure of brass
As an alloy of copper with zinc, brass in its structure has a solid solution of copper in zinc, and the boundary concentration of the latter can not be higher than 39%. Single-phase brass is very ductile, and therefore can be easily deformed even at room temperature. During plastic deformation, the same structural changes occur that are also characteristic of steels: hardness increases, and grain sizes decrease with increasing deformation degree.
